After looking at the cost of other solutions, which are largely moving to cloud-only solutions so they can lock you into to monthly fees, being able to create a Linux Virtual Machine on-prem (for free\!) is an amazing alternative. I can create our weekly signage very easily using Xibo and since I cast to Windows computers behind displays, the licensing cost was also free. > > **Cons**: I originally bought the licensing to have Xibo talk directly to my Samsung TVs but eventually it stopped working well and became a headache, and troubleshooting got harder. So I switched to using Windows computers behind the TVs and that really helped because you get better troubleshooting information from these, and it just seems to work better. I do sometimes have issues with the Windows computers showing the desktop bar on top of the signage, things like that, but the more I work on tweaking the computers, the less that is a thing. The management tool is not user-friendly at all, and there are many repeated concepts (such as the term "scheduling") that are not clearly explained. There is no option to allow some slides within the same campaign (for example, a monthly campaign) to expire before others, or to add new slides in the middle of a campaign (such as halfway through the month). It forces you to create an entirely new campaign every time something ends (or at least I can’t find any explanation on how to do otherwise). > > Using it is a bit frustrating.
