Affinity Designer
About Affinity Designer
Affinity Designer is a graphic design software, which helps creative professionals manage documents, create vector designs with gradients, blend modes, adjustments and effects, edit images, build artboards, and more using various built-in tools. The platform allows organizations to customize text topography and supports multiple image and vector file formats including EPS, PNG, TIFF, GIP, JPEG, PDF, SVG, and PSD.
Affinity Designer enables creative teams to add paragraph or character styles, frames, and ligatures to text, preview designs in standard or retina resolution, and create artboards of any size with screens, menus, and pages. Managers can set up column guides, isometric grids, and planes by defining spacing, sub-divisions, gutters, and angles, among other specifications. The application lets designers convert imported vectors, text, or primitives to editable curves, export artboards, and save stroke styles for future references. Organizations can also store design elements or assets to custom subcategories and utilize the corner tool to soften or round shapes and lines.
Affinity Designer helps users create customizable vector or raster brushes, configure tool behavior, and user interface (UI) settings according to requirements. Designers can also isolate, hide, rename, lock and merge layers, replicate symbols, and position objects based on specific values.

A perfect replacement for Adobe

I was looking for an alternative to the Adobe suite, which have been great, but obviously expensive as I needed to pay each month. I heard about Affinity range (Photo, Designer and Publisher) and thought I should try them out.
Of course, as with anything there were concerns about moving to a new platform, compatability etc, so I stayed with Adobe for a few more months which I became more familiar with Affinity.
After a few years of using Designer, I am not missing Illustrator The layouts are almost identical, the tools are almost the same.
The one thing I miss is the vector tracing, but apart from that I'm happy to have made the switch
Pros
Feature rich, One time payment (vs subscription), easy to use (coming from Adobe Illustrator)
Cons
Missing integration with Adobe fonts, text distortion tools, vector tracing

Never had any problems with the software of the company at all
Pros
Get 99.9% of what you pay a gazillion dollars for Adobe products with AD. It is way more user-friendly, has all the same features for the most part and total cross-use with other affinity programs... and it's a one-time fee for the amazing software.
Cons
Every now and then you look for a feature you are used to with other platforms and its another key command or you have to dig for it a bit to get it done. a few features take a couple of extra steps that arent always necessary.

A really great alternative
Reviewed on 17/09/2023
Pros
I really like the fact that Affinity is a one-time payment software. Unlike Adobe, it doesn't come with an annual subscription, and this factor plays a decisive role in my choice of software. Another of Affinity's strengths is their proximity to users. They attach a great deal of importance to user feedback. And of course, the software's functions are really intuitive and efficient.
Cons
On the other hand, what I don't like is the performance, which is really low on Windows, even with a good configuration. The software is not optimised for Windows and you can feel it. That's one of the software's only faults for me, the performance. Version 2 of Affinity has added a huge number of new features. I hope that this point will be improved in the future.

Best value vector design software
Reviewed on 12/11/2023
Pros
After using Illustrator since it first came out in the late 80's I have found Affinity Designer to be a very good experience and the best alternative I have ever found. I like the on-off price rather than the subscription model, and the option to upgrade if I find value in that.
Cons
Some features that I have been used to in Adobe Illustrator are missing. I am hoping that they add them future updates. It took awhile to get used to the different way of using vector tools but got the hang of it and in some instances are much easier now.
