Video making solution facilitating workplace communication

About Loom

Loom is a video making solution designed to help businesses facilitate workplace communication through video or screen recording capabilities. It allows users to utilize the web interface to capture screens or record front-facing camera videos and share them via a link with stakeholders.

Key features of Loom include online video sharing, customizable branding, encryption, collaboration, commenting, and animation previews. Designed for engineering, sales, customer success, leadership, and customer support teams, Loom allows users to duplicate or trim video copies, send personalized videos, and receive notifications for every view. Plus, it allows teams to enable "do not disturb" mode whilst recording on Mac devices, in order to avoid unnecessary interruptions.

Loom can either be deployed on-premise or hosted in the cloud. It enables teams to gather content in a library and share specific videos with groups of people by creating public folders or providing limited access using password protection. It facilitates integration with Gmail, Zendesk, Slack, Embedly and more.

Loom - a simple way to make tutorials

Loom is an excellent tool to collaborate with your team, since you can describe the steps of a procedure for some software or some complex task, I like that you can combine recording your screen and at the same time using the camera, Loom is practical and its interface It is intuitive, it does not require much time to know how to use it and can be share easy with a link.

Pros

What I could emphasize the most is that Loom is very simple to use; it is a software that does not take up much screen space, it is unobtrusive, and you can select the plugin on any screen and record what I am doing; it also has the ability to turn the microphone on and off as needed. It is considerably more useful than written instructions to teach how to execute a task or administer a computer because I can create tutorials.

Cons

While I like how simple the desktop app is, I wish loom had more options for video editing.

Good product, but it currently lack 2 important features

Reviewed on 15/10/2022

Happy, but I was expecting much more.

Happy, but I was expecting much more.

Pros

It's very, very easy to create a video, even from your browser, once you install the extension. Just a few clicks.

Cons

At the time I'm writing (October 22) the search feature is case sensitive and doesn't search for substring. I.e. if you search for "cap" it doesn't find "Capterra".
The other critical missing feature is sorting video. You can't sort videos in your dashboard, not even alphabetically. You have to resort to folders to organize your videos somehow.
Another critical point is that sometimes it takes a long time to load a video. And occasionally, the GIF previews is not generated correctly and you get a broken link instead. I know (from support) they're working on this, so I expect at least this last glitch to be fixed very soon.

Waste of time

Reviewed on 19/07/2022

Very poor buggy.

Very poor buggy.

Pros

It used to be good, but increasingly rubbish. Lots of bugs, doesn't upload. Fails mid-way. Lots of issues. I use a fast PC, and each time you ask them, they ask for logs and details and all sorts. Its a standard PC, windows 11 pro - fast connections. Their product is getting worse and worse and wasting a lot of time for me re-recording. Now just given up and switched.

Cons

It doesnt work 50% of the time, after you've wasted 8 minutes recording a video.

Good quality screen recording

Reviewed on 3/07/2024

Decent screen recorder. Worth checking out.

Decent screen recorder. Worth checking out.

Pros

Loom helped make popular the concept of sending screen recordings via a link. After you record a screen-share its quickly uploaded and a link to the video created. It does this much faster than Google drive does.

Cons

Sometimes with software like Loom they start with a great concept eg easily make screen recordings that can be quickly shared via a link but then in an effort to improve it they add lots of options that you dont need so the UI is a bit cluttered.

Loom is an amazing tool to quickly and easily record and share training videos. I love that you can share your entire screen, desktop or just a window. It is perfect to answer a quick question without having to jump on a phone call or get lost in instant messaging. 90% of the SOPs we create are done using Loom.

Pros

The most impactful features are screen share. Now with the introduction of the Chrome extensions, it's easier than ever!

Cons

There is nothing that I don't like. Loom is inexpensive and super easy to use.
