Create custom forms for surveys & questionnaires

About Google Forms

Google Forms is a free form builder tool that enables users to create surveys and questionnaires online in order to collect and organize information, simple or complex. Forms can be used to plan events, manage registrations, set up a poll, collect contact information, create a pop quiz, and more. Users can send all collected data to a spreadsheet and analyze data right in Google Sheets.

When creating a form with Google Forms, users can select from multiple question types, customize values, and drag-and-drop to reorder questions. Question types include dropdowns, multiple choice, and linear scales. Users can also use page branching and question skip logic in order to show questions based on answers. Images, videos (including YouTube videos), logos, and custom logic can be added to forms in order to send professional looking surveys and questionnaires to individuals or customers. Google Forms will automatically suggest a set of colors to style the form, or users can choose from an assortment of curated themes.

Responses to surveys and questionnaires are automatically collected and stored within Google Forms, with live response data and charts. Users can analyze entries with automatic summaries, and watch as responses appear in real time. Raw data can be accessed and analyzed via Google Sheets or other platforms. All forms are mobile responsive, meaning that users can create, edit, and complete forms using any device. Additional users can be invited via email and provided with access for collaboration. Google Forms can be shared with individuals via email, a link, embedded into a website, or shared via social media.

Key benefits of Google Forms

  • Keep forms private by adjusting the sharing settings for each Google form and control who is able to view and edit information.

  • Set up a questionnaire, send it to customers, and watch as the responses are recorded in real time into a spreadsheet.

  • Create questions and analyze results with the team with features for real-time collaboration, and create forms quicker without having to send multiple versions of the file.

  • Google Forms' smart data validation rules help ensure that email addresses are properly formatted, data is correct, and that people receive the appropriate questions based on previous answers.

  • All Google forms are responsive, meaning that users can create, edit, and respond to forms using any device such as a smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer.

An extremely capable, flexible forms & survey solution

Overall, our team has found Forms to be an extremely capable and well-thought-out survey and data collection solution. Having used other survey platforms like Qualitrics and SurveyMonkey, I think google Forms is a little easier to figure out and use. While features and functionality are a bit limited, we've found it to be a great tool for internal polling and comms.

    Pros

I love how easy Google Forms is to use and how well-integrated it is with our other Google products. I can easily create a form, share it with colleagues, edit it collaboratively, and publish it. Customization is extremely easy and the amount of capability the software has is just what we need.

    Cons

Since this is a free solution, white labeling is not possible with the base version of Google Forms. While this is not a deal breaker, it does limit how much you can use the product externally and in customer-facing roles. As a result, URLs are Google-based domains and deeper customization is sort of limited beyond changing the colors and adding a header photo.

    Reasons for Choosing Google Forms

Cost. SurveyMonkey was prohibitivly expensive for our small team and we did not want to pay the high price for just internal usage.

It has an affordable price compared to the benefits to the organization.

    Pros

It is an excellent tool for data collections. It is quite simple to design a form for our unique objective and launch it as well, thanks to the forms' simple interaction with our Google accounts. I used it for data collection for our research project. Possibility of creating a list of inquiries and anticipating a massive amount of organized, real-time responses.

    Cons

It doesn't offer as many customization choices as other form firms do to make your forms look distinctive. It can be challenging for some sorts of research since users are restricted in the question and answer formats that are permitted.

Overall it was positive it's quick and friendly user interface made me keep coming back to it. Despite it's shortcomings it is still very useful for my job as a Software Project Manager.

    Pros

I enjoyed how easy the software was to use. I could make surveys in minutes which helped me to be time efficient.

    Cons

I disliked the customizable templates. They were outdated and were only useful for the situation they were made for e.g the event feedback template is not suitable for feedback on an app

Google Forms is not forgiving and not user friendly

Overall I have found Google Forms to be very cumbersome, unforgiving, not user friendly, and very time intensive. I can (and have) made simple mistakes where I allow for response receipts and student have sent my Form with all of the questions and answers to their friends. I have also made the mistake of not asking for their name. I was not able to identify who's response was who's, and students had to take the Form again. Because I was not in the Google Beta group, I did not have access to customer support to suggest changes to Forms. For the purpose of quizzes/ test, it is extremely time intensive to type every question, correct answer, wrong answer, and add photos. Other programs have teacher created content to choose from.

    Pros

The most beneficial feature of Google Forms is its ability to automatically grade quizzes and populate Google Classroom with grades. I would not use Google Forms at all if it did not automatically grade. I also like the feature where I can edit the answers after students take the Quiz and it will change their grade. This saves me the time of changing all students grade if I made a mistake in the answer key.

    Cons

    1. I have learned that hard way that you MUST include a question with the students name and period, otherwise you won't be able to sort and find their responses.
    2. I have to type every quiz and questions by hand. I realize that Google Forms has other purposes beside quizzes/ test for teachers, but it is far too time consuming now that we are juggling far more than we ever did. There are so many other programs that better suited for administering quizzes/ test with existing questions sets that can duplicated and not personally created.
    3. The Locked Mode feature is great! BUT it will only work on Chromebooks. It is a completely useless feature now in virtual teaching because students are working on different devices.
    4. This one may be user error, but I cannot easily share a Google Form to colleagues without adding them as collaborators. In doing so, I have to rely on them making a copy and not editing my original. When I send a Form via email, it sends the student view. Again, this may be something I am doing wrong but a better method is certainly not obvious.

Overall, I am fully satisfied. I would love to suggest everybody to use Google Forms whenever they may need it.

    Pros

I am working as a student co-ordinator in my school named Sydney International School which is a international school. As a co-ordinator, I have to manage network with student's and keep them organized with our works and teaching. For that reason, I regularly need to use Google Forms as a medium to take their opinions. I enjoy using it and it make my task more easy.

    Cons

I loved using it and in my future use cases, I will rely on it as it's so much authentic and helpful.
