About Dentrix Ascend
Dentrix Ascend is a web-based dental practice management software offering users front office, clinical, and business tools to assist with the running of their practice. Multi-site support allows users to set up unlimited physical practice locations, with separate schedules and reporting, and the ability to share patient records. User roles can be assigned both by location and by user, and a role-based practice overview is shown to each user on login, with the current status of users’ tasks and customized daily to-do lists.
Dentrix Ascend’s patient overviews contain all necessary patient check-in information on one screen, with further information displayed with a single click. Patient profiles enable users to manage patient guarantor and family relationships, track patient referrals, and make a record of conversation notes. With the inbuilt drag-and-drop treatment planner, users can create, present, and schedule cases, and track patients’ acceptance and progress. Users can schedule appointments with specific operatories and providers, enter patient treatment plans, select multiple providers for each appointment, and view patient confirmations. Dentrix Ascend also allows users to manage up to 10 insurance plans per patient, track patient eligibility for treatments, and archive expired insurance plans.
Dentrix Ascend includes customizable clinical charts, where users can add conditions, procedures, and clinical notes, with the option group related procedures together in multi-codes. Medical alerts can be added from the catalog of existing alerts, or custom alerts created. Users can also set alerts as being high priority, making them visible every time a patient’s record is viewed. Perio progress can also be recorded and tracked using the inbuilt perio charts. Recare/recall plans can also be created for each patient, based on various routine treatments. For imaging, Dexis, a cloud-based custom-made imaging solution for Dentrix Ascend, requires no on-premises imaging servers.
Dentrix Ascend includes a drag-and-drop editor for creating customized reports with charts and graphs, which can be exported in multiple file formats. The inbuilt document manager allows users to search, manage and upload documents and images, which can be attached to patient files, and assigned tags for searching. eServices are also included with Dentrix Ascend, enabling users to submit insurance claims electronically and automate patient communication.

Overall we switched because we were trying to access all patients from all locations and switching to this software has allowed us to do that.
Pros
I love that we can login with ease from anywhere, it allows us to look at charts and complete tasks from any location. I also love the dashboard, it shows what claims need to be worked on and helps keep the team on track.
Cons
The clinical team has not been happy with the way the chart is and when you are placing the treatment and existing treatment in.

My overall experience with Dentrix Ascend is good - When we find a glitch or would like to see something change, we are able to get help from customer service quickly. I like that Dentrix accepts requests to make changes and prioritizes the requests by how many other companies are requesting the same change.
Pros
What I like most about Dentrix Ascend is that it is easy to use, web based so I can access the program anytime. They have a very good resource and support center to answer any questions I have. I utilize this for training new employees.
Cons
What I like least about Dentrix Ascend is that reports that I run are not consistant. I can run one report that gives me figures/numbers and run a different report for the same criteria and I can get different results.

We just short of 2 years using Ascend. While I have gotten used to some of the more burdensome aspects, and it's okay, there are still many aspects that are inefficient and time consuming. Software, especially new "latest and greatest" should make workload easier and more efficient. Overall, Ascend hasn't made things more streamlined and efficient. It is the opposite.
Pros
Being web based is an advantage due to being able to access when out of the office with secure credentials. Occasionally situations arise when contacting patients outside of business hours of off location is important.
Being able to add attachments to claims is easy and I do love this about Ascend, except......
Cons
......Many insurance plans we use are not supported neither in eclaims nor attachments in Ascend. Some plans with multiple payor ids, are only identified in Ascend with one or the wrong payor id altogether, increasing the number of paper claims required. It also not possible to update an employer/group when they change insurance plans, some do this yearly. A brand new group has to be added when this happens. Editing a group makes much more sense.
Too many clicks to do everything, especially printing. Standard reporting is extremely difficult. Building the report needed is time consuming and confusing.
Of all the complicated things you can do with Ascend, electronic billing isn't one of them. Statements have to be printed, stuffed, stamped and mailed. Very time consuming.

Getting better with every update

Pros
The cloud based platform makes for a great integration between multiple locations. The interface is practical and laid out well (once your are adjusted to it).
Cons
Many updates are still needed, some of which should have been implemented in the first release of the program. Sometimes the program is 'buggy'/slow (we have very fast internet). There should be more options for customization.
Reasons for Choosing Dentrix Ascend
We opened a second office and needed to be able to integrate to a cloud based program.Reasons for Switching to Dentrix Ascend
It provided the most logical and easy to use interface, it offered a great price since we use Schein as our supplier, and I felt that it would be updated more regularly than other products.Dentrix Ascend FAQs
