eCommerce platform for WordPress

About WooCommerce

Designed for small to large-scale online vendors, WooCommerce is an open-source eCommerce plugin for WordPress. The WooCommerce platform allows any WordPress user to set up a basic online store, completely free (additional plug-ins and customization modules are chargeable).

Users can sell anything from tangible items to music files to time and services. They can develop their own plugins to add new functionality to their online store or buy a pre-made plugin from the WooCommerce store.

Shipping cost and sales tax calculation for anywhere in the world is done automatically with WooCommerce. The WooCommerce store management interface allows users to manage their store on the go. Inventory updates and product management don't require any experience or knowledge of coding.

Key benefits of WooCommerce

  • Because WooCommerce is a self-hosted solution, you keep control of your own data and hold full ownership of all the information needed to run your online store.

  • Build your own databases for marketing campaigns and run 'coupon code' promotions through WooCommerce's integrations with a variety of extensions.

  • WooCommerce is built to integrate seamlessly with WordPress meaning users have access to the ever-growing WordPress ecosystem.

  • View incoming sales, reviews, stock levels and store performance from the backend, with WooCommerce reporting.

  • Integrate your store with MailChimp, Freshbooks, Xero, Amazon Web Services and more.

I am really happy with overall experience of using Woo Commerce for online E Commerce store.
Free version fulfills most of small startup business requirements.Only hosting domain and other charges are needed to setup your own Business or online store website.Configuration is effortless but may be confusing for a total non tech newbie who use shopify only.Nonetheless after some practice it becomes a piece of cake.It is a much secure platform with helpful plugins to for add-on functionality.I would really recommend it for online E-Commerce store specially which are already running on WordPress CMS.

    Pros

First of all it is plugin in word press environment which makes it m first and only choice as the best for making e-commerce functionality website. It has all the functions to run an online store easily with out much technical knowledge.Various plugin supplement and extend the Woo Commerce functionalities even further beyond.Payment processing and order management is handled efficiently and effectively.Too many functionalities like bulk upload, shipping management, contact info, payment management and etc make life easier to much extent like designing forms, creating custom checkout field , shop page custom price filter and minimum or max product quantities...etc.

    Cons

Not much user friendly like shopify and other competitor.Still just little practice needed to learn it.Its related add-on plugins can be expensive.I had not faced any major technical issue using it.

    Alternatives Considered

    Shopify

    Reasons for Switching to WooCommerce

Because WooCommerce give the independence of choosing a hosting server of your own choice according to budget and performance needs.I had WordPress hosting experience and it operates in this environment as a plugin in which I have experience working.

Still the #1 eCommerce solution for an established WordPress Website

Generally speaking it is a breeze to work with - both as e-Commerce site developer/builder, Site *owner* and also on the front-end as End Consumer too. It does _not_ offer the slickest Checkout solution on the market (that plaudit goes to Shopify, sorry folks...) - but for the overall package and native WordPress compatibility, it remains by go-to eCommerce solution.

    Pros

Being a native WordPress product and service these days (whilst still operating until the preserved Woo... branding), WooCommerce is without doubt the go-to e-Commerce solution for any WordPress website (one obviously downside (if you can call it that..) being that of course WooCommerce is ONLY available for consideration for WordPress Website owners. Easy to use product inventory management and order processing, there are also a number of free (and paid-for) extensions available to consider bolting-on too.

    Cons

At some point in time it became necessary to have an active WooCommere.com account in order to acquire and then update selected extensions. Free, so in theory not a hurdle. However... the tie-up with / ownership by WordPress can sometimes lead to a frustrating tangle - where you are not entirely sure WHICH account you are logged-in to - or indeed whether or not you are able to acquire and/or update some of those official extensions. Very frustrating.. having such an account should be OPTIONAL (but I don't believe it is....).

For simple ecommerce setups, WooCommerce is smooth and easy to use. Again, if you have any sort of custom (even conventional) shipping, coupons, or store setups, you're stuck paying for extras that add up pretty quickly.

    Pros

For the most basic of ecommerce setups, you can't beat free for Woocommerce. It's made by the same people that make WordPress, so it integrates very smoothly.

    Cons

If you want to do anything of any complexity at all, you're stuck either writing a bunch of code yourself or paying yearly fees on their plugins.

    Alternatives Considered

    Shopify

    Reasons for Switching to WooCommerce

Woocommerce itself is free and works within the confines of your own site, while Shopify forces you into its infrastructure, for better or worse.

Overall, Woo Commerce is an amazing platform and a very reliable choice in the e-commerce space. One of it's advantage as a popular system is that it has a large and active community of users and developers that can easily provide knowledge and support.

    Pros

I would say that Woo Commerce is very cost effective which is ideal for small and medium business like our company. The order and customer accounts management system is efficient and runs very smoothly.

    Cons

At first glance, the user interface a looks a bit archaic and complicated at the same time. I supposed the design of the UI can still be improved. The required regular updates to maintain security and compatibility is helpful but at the same time affects our productivity negatively.

Our experience and mine overall are great. There are hundreds of third-party integrations running efferently along with this platform, which makes managing an e-commerce very simple out of the box. It is easy to add many products variations, different kind of inventories, pricing features, and so other.

    Pros

FreeEasy to use, understand, install and manage. Very customizable since runs on WordPress

    Cons

It supposedly might find hard to work along with thousands of items and tremendously visited websites. We haven't faced many issues so far.

    Alternatives Considered

    Wix, Magento BI and Shopify

    Reasons for Switching to WooCommerce

No way any of those competitors might race WooCommerce at any level other than supper stores, and I keep some doubts WooCommerce get difficulties at large scale as many people claim. In first place, it is the only completely free alternative of the market working along with WordPress, which provides a lot of customization power with ease. Additionally, there are several payment gateways providers, and you can decide your best rate other than getting tied by a particular fee in platforms such as Wix or Shopify. And talking about Magento, WordPress happens to be more user-friendly either for developers or Search Engines.
