There is no escaping at least learning the basics of AE if you intend to enter the animation industry; however, especially being locked to a very expensive company such as Adobe, makes you wonder about the competitors out there.

Pros

Obviously, AE is the industry leader when it comes to animating, and being integrated into the Adobe suite helps with the workflow.

Cons

As the title mentioned, the learning curve, like any other animation tool, is quite steep; additionally, the software is quite demanding in terms of hardware, which can make the learning/using journey a bit hard.

As a long-term user of Adobe After Effects, I can confidently say that this powerful software has revolutionized the world of motion graphics and visual effects. Over the years, I have witnessed its evolution and improvements, making it an indispensable tool for professionals and enthusiasts alike. The app has been an indispensable companion throughout my creative journey. From creating captivating title sequences to producing stunning visual effects, the software has consistently empowered me to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. While it may present a learning curve and require powerful hardware, the immense creative potential, seamless integration with other Adobe tools, extensive plugin support, and a thriving community make Adobe After Effects a powerhouse in the field of motion graphics and visual effects. Whether you're a professional animator, a video editor, or a passionate enthusiast, Adobe After Effects offers a playground where ideas come to life. It has undoubtedly become an integral part of my creative toolkit, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to unlock their creative potential in the realm of motion graphics and visual effects.

Pros

Adobe After Effects provides an expansive canvas for imagination to flourish. With its vast array of effects, plugins, and tools, the possibilities for creating stunning visuals are virtually limitless. From simple animations to complex compositing and 3D motion graphics, the software empowers users to bring their visions to life. One of the standout features of the software is its seamless integration with other Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Whether you're working on a project in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Premiere Pro, the ability to easily import and manipulate assets across these programs streamlines the workflow and enhances productivity. Adobe After Effects boasts a thriving ecosystem of plugins developed by both Adobe and third-party vendors. These plugins offer specialized features and effects that further extend the software's capabilities. From advanced particle systems to advanced color grading tools, the plugin support enriches the user experience and opens up new horizons for creativity.

Cons

Due to its extensive feature set and complexity, Adobe After Effects has a steep learning curve, especially for beginners. Mastering the software requires time and dedication, as well as a solid understanding of animation principles and visual effects concepts. However, with perseverance and the availability of learning resources, this hurdle can be overcome.

After Effects is a high quality animation and motion graphics software and the up-to-date features of the software keeps us on track with all the new features to produce high quality renders.

Pros

I like the absolutely accurate motion tracking ability of After Effects. The renders are of fine quality and the overall software design feels very professional like all the Adobe products. Another very good feature is the high quality compositing ability.

Cons

A new user could find it difficult to use it at the first use. Also the cost is on a higher side.

Overall, despite the horrific performance, it's my go to for video editing as there simply isn't a better tool.

Pros

The pros are numerous. It might be the most powerful video editing tool available. There are many add-ons and mods available to simplify daily routine tasks and take animations to the next level. The user interface could use some work, but overall it's not that complicated once you get used to it.

Cons

The biggest problem is pre-renders in the timeline. One tiny adjustment and the entire timeline has to re-render and each time long form content has to re-render can take as long as an hour. Imagine waiting an hour for every edit to pre-render so you can see the result. Yeah, that makes After Effects almost unusable. It's so bad that I have to structure how I film and often break up renders into multiple projects otherwise I would never get anything done.

Using Adobe After Effects has been an incredible overall experience. Using it, I can animate the text and logos for my intro films that I share on social media. I am more productive now that I have this software. Adobe After Effects has the most user-friendly interface.

Pros

I've been working in the graphics and video editing for social marketing purposes for 2 years and I love this animation software. It has so many different options to create stunning visual effects that it's really hard to get bored with this software.

Cons

A new user may take a while to become accustomed to the interface because there is too much going on and we wind up simplifying the interface to make it less overwhelming. After Effects is prone to crashes and can be extremely heavy on your PC, the user needs to have a computer that has high specifics.

The only motion design tool for me

I've been using it for years for animations, videos and transitions, motion tracking and much more . Once you learn the general tools, workflow, integration with other Adobe tools such as Adobe Illustrator, and make use of plugins, the sky is the limit.

Cons

After Effects is heavy on your computer. Although it has a great community, customer service is bad. I get my answers from forum most of the time.

Build a Career with Adobe AfterEffects

Reviewed on 17/08/2023

Pros

The content library is one of the best features in the product. An artist can create 3d models and add effects, animate and add any footage.

Cons

After effects delivers quality results for every motion graphic artist, animation artist and video editor. The only problem with this software is that you need a device with certain hardware requirements in order for you to use it. This makes it a hassle for beginners with the interest to use the software but do not have a suitable device.

One of the best and most powerful video editor out there

Reviewed on 14/10/2023

Pros

It offers a wide range of effects and tools to create animations and composite graphics. Its integration with other Adobe Creative Cloud apps streamlines work, and the availability of third-party plugins adds extra features for creativity. It is very powerful for animation and motion designing and I would not choose any other software over it.

Cons

It requires a high performance PC to run and render smoothly. Also, it might take a long time to learn everything the software has to offer. The UI might be intimidating for beginners trying to learn AE.

I've been using After Effects for over 10 years now, and it's something I wouldn't trade for any other animation software out there. Simply the best. I'd still try to lower the entry price, but overall, it's great.

Pros

I love the ease with which I can do my Motion Graphics Work.

Cons

Even tho the software is amazing, I'd say the only and worse downside would be the pricing - it's still quite pricy, especially considering there are free alternatives out there, but perhaps not as robust as After Effects.

This software will be real struggle for new users. As a new come I had to spent many hours to understand program to some degree of usability.

Pros

For making video editing, animations and visual effects, Adobe After Effects is one of the best on the market. If you know after some time how to handle with all features than it start to be really powerful tool. Program has many features for making more special effects up to the really complex ones.

Cons

Software for beginners is hard to understand and sometimes confusing. The time to getting used to is quite long. Also rendering is computationally demanding, so it is not very suitable for weaker machines. For many users, cheaper tipes of programs are sufficient.

It's a great skill to have, but it felt like a real accomplishment to learn how to use it, which isn't what a software should feel like.

Pros

There are so many features - if you want to do something, there is a feature to help you do it. It's compatible with all other Adobe products, which makes projects a thousand times easier to switch between softwares for whatever you need to do.

Cons

It has an incredibly difficult learning curve. I literally needed to take a course to learn how to use it, because it does not do a good job explaining what it's features are or what they do, let alone how to best use them.
