Excellent company. Fully engaged leadership. They understand their customers and their role. I love the fact this thing works and I love that 1Password is helping me stay current with both operational user security issues as well as new trends. I am betting a lot on any password or security management company - I have confidence in this team. They are good. They get that their daily job is that this has to work and be secure daily - everything else is frosting on the cake.

Pros

High level of integrity and security
Ease of Use
Group Functionality

Cons

I don't have any dislikes about the product. I use it multiple times a day and it works. Working is everything. Added feature bloat is a distraction not present in 1Password.

Solid product up through 1Password7, I used to recommend it. Now I'm going to have to switch vendors to one with local storage & LAN synchronization feature.

Pros

1Password7 had a local storage with LAN synchronization options so secret storage never went to the cloud, greatly increasing security over the competition.

Cons

1Password8 removed the most two most critical features: local vaults and LAN synchronization.

Overall, 1Password has been an incredibly effective and reliable solution for my needs. I highly recommend this product to anyone in need of a robust password management tool.

Pros

Make password management easy. Although never the most 'exciting' product, a solid password manager will save you time, keep you secure, and save you stress. 1Password does all of that, very well. Passwords are super secure, and be tweaked per-website so you can maximise the strength without exceeding limits per website. Also has fantastic sharing capabilities.

Cons

Can you put a price on digital security? Not really. However, 1Password is one of the more expensive apps, compared to competitors.

1Password is the best password manager going

Reviewed on 19/07/2024

Pros

The company, 1Password, is dedicated to the product 1Password. It's all they do and they clearly care to do it well.
They not only stay on top of security trends, but are helping push the industry forward, e.g. with their support and advocacy of passkeys. You can look up technical details of their encryption, audits, etc. better than I can describe them here, but they are copacetic.
They keep the product regularly updated without breaking anything, but making important improvements. They seem to work a lot on user experience, accessibility, and website compatibility.
It has an effective and easy API and CLI tool.
It's really a pleasure to use. As much as one can enjoy the utilitarian role a password manager plays, I enjoy interacting with 1Password. My family is not so nerdy, but they set it up by themselves and actually use it—that's the highest praise I can give.

Cons

It's not cheap. It's definitely worth the price, but there are free alternatives.
It's not open source. There are decent reasons [sensitive content hidden] and they have enough other forms of accountability that I am not concerned, but you may prefer open source software.
Sharing items is not quite intuitive. There's sharing with your family/org by moving to a shared folder, then sharing a secure link, and sharing content as text. These different functions have colliding names and inconsistent icons in inconsistent places across the different apps. They do seem to be making incremental improvements in this area lately.

LastPass and Bitwarden

Reasons for Choosing 1Password

LastPass was the only serious game in town when I started using it, c. 2009. But they haven't kept up. Since they were acquired, the product has stagnated. The interface is clunky, new standards and features are slow in coming, and there's no sign they'll improve. And then there was the breach. 1Password is a pleasure to use by comparison. And more importantly, the company is dedicated to the product and clearly focused on user security and experience.

Reasons for Switching to 1Password

LastPass is slowly dying. See the “switch“ comment for details. Bitwarden is cool, but not as easy to use as 1Password. I wanted my family and friends to get on board, and 1P makes it as easy as possible to do that.

Overall, I like the software. It does what I need it to do and more.

Pros

I like the ease of use of the iPhone app and being able to access my data wherever I am via a computer. The selection of options for new items whether it be login credentials or banking information, etc is nice. You can also have your own private logins and passwords and have a shared folder with others you wish to share passwords or logins with.

Cons

My only complaint is the user functionality of the iPhone app. I find that it can be difficult to use or find some of the features within the app.

Nothing but positive, its a wonderful product, easy to use, supports 2FA and Passkeys and is easy to train staff on.

Pros

After trying a number of different password managers, such as LastPass, BitWarden and Keeper we settled on 1Password due to its UI, ease of use, feature set and pricing.

Cons

The fact they don't have a MSP program just yet is disappointing, but as I write this they have just announced that it is coming.

1Password Works Well for the Most Part, But Implementation for Teams May be Clunky!

1Password could use some improvements, but overall, I like what it's trying to do. I'm sure that it will be a lot easier for me to use once I finish the painstaking duplicate removal part of my integration process.

Pros

The vault feature is really handy and far more convenient for our team to use than relying on a spreadsheet on our server. When 1Password works as intended, which I'm still in the process of making happen since I have the duplicate issue (see Cons part of my review), it's pretty user-friendly.

Cons

The autofill feature doesn't work consistently, but my biggest complaint about 1Password is the inability to identify and clean up duplicates automatically. For context, my old password management system was to use Google Passwords for myself. For our HR team of three, we kept a spreadsheet of shared sites and their usernames/passwords.

For the 1Password transition, I was given access to two vaults: one for myself, and one for HR. I imported my Google Passwords into my vault, then used a spreadsheet to import the HR passwords into the HR vault.

There are a ton of duplicates across my vault and the HR vault, which confuses the system and reduces its functionality. We determined that I would need to remove any passwords from my vault that already exist in the HR vault so that there will not be any duplicates.

The person at my company who spearheaded the 1Password piloting and implementation process opened a ticket to see if something could be done within the system to clean up those duplicates. According to their customer support, no such option exists. I am now facing hours of work to comb through both vaults, identify the duplicates (which may go by different names, depending on what they were called in Google Passwords vs. our HR spreadsheet), and remove them from my vault. I'm not thrilled about this at all.

Multi-platform password and identity management.

Overall it's a great tool, it works well and I used it daily. When I first starting using it there wasn't much competition in the way of password managers but now there are a plethora of them, and several other software suites I have provide their own (ESET smart security, Avast and NordVPN) but I have been lazy and paid the annual subscription cost in preference over moving over 1,000 credentials to a new password manager.

Pros

I've been a very long-time user of 1password. My initial use case was to allow maintaining unique passwords for every website and service I use, while keeping my user details synchronized across multiple browsers and operating systems. For instance, on my laptop I use Windows Edge & Chrome, on my iPhone and iPad I use Safari and Firefox and I have previously used MacOS and ChromeOS which have also used 1password.
The best features are the automatic "recognition" of when you visit a website that you have an account with, your are prompted to automatically complete your username and password. It also recognizes when you visit a new website and create a new account, automatically creating a record for that site. It's data is synchronized across all platforms, so if you register an account on your Windows PC, it will automatically be available when you visit the same website on your mobile phone or tablet.
Passwords can be used between personal users (family) or work users (teams) to securely store and retrieve authentication details.

Cons

Originally, 1password required a 3rd party to synchronize password data across platforms, but they introduced their cloud SaaS offering to address this. They also took this opportunity to move from a perpetual license to an annual subscription model.
In the last few years, 1password has steadily added features but in my opinion have been slow to address some gaps, such as automation of credentials over SSH (a feature that is only now experimental).

All in one solution for encryption and password management

Reviewed on 28/05/2024

Pros

Love using this product for my team. We share a ton of log-ins and having a centralized management tool makes it easy to log-in and access various software and tools we use (web included). Biggest pain this solved for us is when a password reset occurs, we have to track who changed the password, what the new password is, etc. this solved all of it.

Cons

The Chrome extension sometimes doesn't auto-populate all fields, have to manually trigger the chrome extension. This isn't a big deal.

It makes it easy to share logins in a safe way too, when you need to give access to a shared account.
